Head to head

Eufy vs Wyze: which should you actually buy?

Both let you skip the monthly fee. Eufy costs three to five times more per camera and is a better product in nearly every dimension — including the one that matters most.

We’re reader-supported. Buying through our links may earn us a commission, and we’re paid for installer introductions — but it never changes our ratings. How this works.

The security record is the deciding factor

Both companies have had privacy incidents. They are not equivalent.

Eufy, 2023: researchers showed that event thumbnails were being uploaded to the cloud despite “local storage” marketing, and that streams could be accessed outside the app under certain conditions. The company acknowledged this, corrected the marketing, and encrypted the traffic. A marketing-versus-implementation gap — serious, and addressed.

Wyze, repeatedly: a 2019 exposure of data for roughly 2.4 million users; a camera vulnerability known internally from 2019 and not disclosed for about three years; and two separate incidents in 2023 and 2024 in which users saw thumbnails and, in some cases, video from other households’ cameras.

One company misdescribed what its product did. The other repeatedly allowed strangers to see inside customers’ homes and, on one occasion, sat on a known vulnerability for years.

Hardware: Eufy, comfortably

Battery life: Eufy is measured in months, helped by on-device AI that filters events before waking the radio. Wyze battery models need far more frequent charging.

Detection: Eufy distinguishes people, pets and vehicles on-device and gets it right most of the time. Wyze’s detection is less accurate and parts of it have moved behind a subscription.

Build: Eufy’s outdoor housings survive weather considerably better over multiple years.

Dual-camera models: Eufy’s wide-plus-telephoto designs have no Wyze equivalent.

Cost across five years

Both subscription-free options beat cloud rivals over five years. Wyze is cheapest by a wide margin.
Setup Hardware Five-year subscription Total
Wyze, 4 cameras + microSD≈ $150–$250$0≈ $150–$250
Eufy, 4 cameras + HomeBase≈ $600–$900$0≈ $600–$900
Ring, 4 cameras + plan (for reference)≈ $400–$600≈ $600≈ $1,000–$1,200

Wyze is roughly a quarter of Eufy’s cost. Both comfortably beat subscription cameras over five years, which is the broader point — see our no-monthly-fee guide.

Which should you choose?

Choose Eufy if you can afford it. Better battery life, better detection, better build, and a materially better security record. For indoor cameras or anywhere privacy matters, this is the answer.

Choose Wyze if budget is genuinely the binding constraint and you are covering outdoor, low-sensitivity areas. It is a legitimate choice within those limits.

Frequently asked questions

Are Eufy or Wyze cameras safer?

Eufy. Its 2023 issue was a marketing-versus-implementation gap that was corrected. Wyze has had repeated incidents including cross-account image exposure in 2023 and 2024.

Do either need a subscription?

No. Eufy records to a HomeBase in your home; Wyze records to a microSD card. Both are genuinely usable with no monthly fee.

Which has better battery life?

Eufy, substantially — often months against weeks, because on-device AI filters events before waking the radio.
